ANALYSIS
Statistical analysis
Statistical analysis turns observations into answers to a specific question. A dependable workflow begins by checking how the data were collected, then explores patterns, chooses a suitable method and reports uncertainty alongside the main result.
Start with the data and the question
Look for missing values, unusual measurements, duplicate records and uneven groups before calculating a result. Summaries and plots can reveal patterns that a single average hides. Keep a record of exclusions and analysis choices so another reader can understand how the result was produced.
The examples here distinguish description from inference: a sample summary describes observed data, while an inferential result estimates or tests something beyond the sample.
